Physical Therapy will help patients regain strength and mobility. After a thorough evaluation, an individualized care plan is created. Physical Therapy uses exercise, manual techniques, and modalities such as heat and cold therapies, ultrasound, and electrical modalities. Vestibular Rehabilitation is offered for the treatment of dizziness, vertigo, lightheadedness, imbalance and nausea.

All HRH physical therapists are state-licensed professionals.

Hannibal Regional Hospital Rehabilitation Services offers physical therapy at Hannibal Regional Hospital, Hannibal Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine, Bowling Green Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine, Monroe City Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine and through Hannibal Regional Hospital Home Health.

Hand Therapy
Hand Therapy helps patients regain fine motor skills and strength of the hand, wrist, elbow or shoulder through exercises and manipulation.

Hand Therapists are physical therapists or occupational therapists with specialized training.

Hand Therapy is available at Hannibal Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine.

Speech Therapy
Speech-Language Pathologists help patients with speech, language, and swallowing disorders.

Speech therapists hold, at least, a masters degree, are state licensed, and are Certified Clinically Competent. The Hannibal Regional Hospital speech therapy team includes therapists who are certified to provide VitalStim therapy which helps promote swallowing through neuromuscular electrical stimulation to the swallowing muscles.

Speech Therapy is available at Hannibal Regional Hospital and through Hannibal Regional Hospital Home Health.

Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapy helps patients improve their ability to perform tasks of daily living and work skills, from eating, dressing and bathing to using a computer, improved decision-making and problem-solving. The Hannibal Regional Hospital Occupational Therapy team includes therapists who are certified to provide lymphedema treatment. Lymphedema treatment works to lessen certain swellings of the limbs.

Occupational Therapy uses exercises and training in the use of adaptive aids.

Occupational Therapists hold specialized degrees and are state licensed as Occupational Therapist Registered Licensed (OTRL).

Occupational Therapy is available at Hannibal Regional Hospital, Hannibal Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine and through Hannibal Regional Hospital Home Health.

Cardiac Rehabilitation
Cardiac rehab is a program of exercise and education to help patients restore or improve heart health after a heart attack, heart procedure, or heart disease. A patient’s personalized program is arranged between the patient, the physician and the Cardiac Rehab team. Each exercise session is reviewed by the physician.

The cardiac rehab team includes R.N.s and respiratory therapists who are state licensed and have advanced medical training in cardiac care.

Cardiac Rehabilitation is offered at Hannibal Regional Hospital.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation
Pulmonary rehab is a program of exercise and education to help patients with chronic lung disease improve their exercise tolerance, decrease breathlessness, and generally improve their state of health. A patient’s personalized program is arranged between the patient, the physician, and the Pulmonary Rehab team. All exercise sessions are reviewed by the physician.

The pulmonary rehab team consists of respiratory therapists who are state licensed and have advanced medical training.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation is offered at Hannibal Regional Hospital.

Referrals and Insurance

Patients must have a doctors written prescription for rehabilitation therapy. Most insurance programs, Medicare and Medicaid will assist with the cost of rehabilitation services.

Hannibal Regional Hospital offers Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Cardiac Rehab, and Pulmonary Rehab. 

Hannibal Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine offers Physical therapy, Sports Medicine and Hand Therapy.

Bowling Green offers Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine. 

Monroe City offers Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine.
